Benefits:
Pay periods: facutly are paid once a month, on the last working day of the month. Pay periods may extend over a 10 - 12 month span, depending upon the actual number of days worked. Sick leave: sick leave is earned at the rate of one day per month of service and may be accumulated indefinitely. Insurance: Health, dental, life, vision and Employee Assistance Plan are available for full-time employees only. Retirement: Faculty members and the District contribute to the State Teachers Retirement System. Five years of service are required for vesting.
Dollar Amount: $57,111 - $105,281/year
Job Summary/Basic Function:
Must be able to successfully teach a wide variety of courses in the areas of Heating Ventilation, Air Conditioning, refrigeration, and electrical systems.
Typical course topics include but are not limited to:
- Heating and Air Conditioning
- Commercial Refrigeration
- Basic Electrical
- Energy Systems
- Welding
Must be able to successfully develop and maintain class syllabus, curriculum, student learning outcomes, and program reviews.
Perform duties associated with instructing students, assessing their progress and meeting with them during scheduled office hours.
Perform related duties, including serving on area and college-wide committees to support and enrich the instructional program.
Actively participate in School activities.
Maintain currency in the instructional field by participating in staff development and continuing education.
Other duties include assisting with grants, locating and recommending adjunct faculty, meeting with advisory committees and community partners, developing community and industry partnerships, and articulation.
Minimum Qualifications:
Any Bachelor's degree and two years experience in the field OR any Associate's degree and six years experience in the field, OR the equivalent.
Desirable Qualifications:
- The successful candidate for this position will be able to demonstrate knowledge, interest and evidence of commitment to assessment of student learning outcomes at the course, degree and institution level. Preference will be given to those candidates demonstrating the highest level of professional competency in the following areas:
- B.S. or higher from an accredited institution in a technical discipline which includes coursework in HVAC/R.
- Classroom teaching experience in a community college, industrial or adult educational environment.
- Industrial and/or residential experience as an HVAC Technician.
- Professional or educational experience with the installation, design or repair of industrial refrigeration units.
- Familiarity with California's Title 24 Construction Codes.
- Possession of Industry Certifications such as but not limited to NATE, ICE, RSES.
- Experience with online and distance learning instruction and curriculum development.
- Knowledge of different learning styles and teaching techniques with an emphasis on successful teaching experience working with diverse student populations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and positive relationships with students, faculty, classified staff, and administration.
- Understanding of the integration of critical thinking, writing, reading, oral communication and computation skills into the lecture and laboratory teaching and learning activities.
- Knowledge of and ability to use computers and appropriate software applications.
- Understanding of the role and mission of the California Community College System.

Demonstrate a willingness and ability to continue individual education to enhance teaching skills and broaden course qualifications.
Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of disabilities as well as diverse academic, cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds of students and colleagues.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Teaching assignment will cover instructional courses teaching: repair, diagnostics, integration and design of HVAC/R equipment and electrical theroy and application.
Assume an active role in the student advising process.
Work effectively as a part of a team.
Update and review Division course outlines, assist with program review and participate in assessment of student learning outcomes.Actively participate in shared governance process.
Write and review program curriculum.
Assist Adjunct Faculty with program instruction.
Organize and sustain Industry Advisory Group.
Participate in School and Area meetings, College activities and committees.
Work Schedule:
Instructor will possibly teach classes during day, evening and weekend hours at the Palm Desert campus, Eastern Valley Center and other district community sites as to meet program and student needs.
